WREC Sustainability

In the referendum language passed by the students in March 2005, the WREC was promised to be built as a LEED Certified SILVER building. Through the design phase of the WAC, the experienced architects at Sasaki have designed the building to meet the LEED Certified Silver rating and are evaluating the Gold rating.

What is LEED?

The acronym LEED stands for (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System established by the U.S. Green Building Council to promote the framework for assessing building performance and achieving sustainability goals. LEED focuses on implementing state of the art strategies for sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality based upon The Green Building Rating System a voluntary, consensus-based national standard.
